Spinal cord - white matter (40x objective lens)


This image shows a portion of the white matter of the spinal cord. It is composed of nerve fibers (stained black with silver) running in various directions. Parallel bundle of nerve fibers (called tracts) can be seen. This aggregation of fibers is referred to as the neuropil.
