Peripheral nerve (10x objective lens)

This image shows a cross section of a peripheral nerve, composed of numerous myelinated and unmyelinated (hard to see) nerve fibers. Individual nerve fibers with their Schwann cell-derived sheaths are cut in cross and longitudinal section. The nerve is surrounded by a layer of connective tissue called the epineurium.
