Cerebrum - gray matter (20x objective lens)

This section from the mouse brain shows a portion of the gray matter. A row of pyramidal cell bodies, with their characteristic triangular shape, are located along the left-hand side of the image. The long extension extending from each perikaryon towards the right points to the surface of the cerebrum and gives rise to the cell's dendritic tree. The many nuclei in the section belong either to glia cells or to smaller neurons. The "holes" in the section, ranging from circular to elongated, mark the location of blood vessels.
