Cerebrum (10x objective lens)

This low magnification image of a section from the mouse brain shows the full thickness of the cerebrum. The surface of the cerebrum is to the left. The gray matter, containing the cell bodies of neurons and glia cells, occupies the left three-quarters of the image. The short, often curving, open spaces in the gray matter mark the location of blood vessels. The white matter, containing nerve fibers and glia cells, occupies the right one-quarter of the image.
