Cerebellum (10x objective lens)

This low magnification view of a section from cerebellum stained with silver primarily reveals Purkinje cells. The bulbous perikarya of these cells are lined up in a single layer, the Purkinje cell layer, at the boundary between the molecular layer (above) and the granular cell layer (below). The highly arborized dendritic tree, which is characteristic of Purkinje cells, spans the full thickness of the molecular layer. The black-stained tubular and branching structures in the lower layers are blood vessels.
