Cerebellum (10x objective lens)

This low magnification view of a section from the cerebellum shows the three layers of gray matter in this part of the brain. The outer molecular layer has a uniform structure containing only a few cell nuclei. The innermost granular layer contains numerous cells with purple-stained nuclei. In between is the Purkinje cell layer, which is one cell-layer thick, containing the perikarya of Purkinje cells (seen better at higher magnification). Note that the white matter is not visible in this section, which is tangential to the outer surface of the cerebellum.
