Spinal cord - dorsal root nerve (100x objective lens)

In this section of the dorsal root nerve, the nerve fibers appear as blue lines bounded by a clear space, many of which contain short blue-red lines extending from the nerve fiber to the edge of the myelin sheath. These lines are remnants of Schwann cell cytoplasm that were not extracted during preparation. The red-stained oval nuclei belong to Schwann cells. A prominent node of Ranvier can be seen in the upper right corner of the image.

Stain = AZAN.
