Spinal cord - ventral horn (4x objective lens)

This low magnification image shows the lower (ventral) right quadrant of the spinal cord. In the center and upper left part of the image is the ventral horn (motor horn), a region of gray matter, surrounded by more lightly stained white matter. The ventral horn contains the soma of motor neurons whose axons exit the spinal cord via the ventral nerve (not shown). These neurons are the among the largest in the body.
Stain = silver.
