Spinal cord - dorsal horn (4x objective lens)

This low magnification image shows the upper (dorsal) right quadrant of the spinal cord. In the lower left part of the image is the dorsal horn, a region of gray matter, surrounded by more lightly stained white matter. Extending from the dorsal horn to the edge of the spinal cord is dorsal root, an elongated extension of the gray matter containing the axons and dendrites of nerves. The dorsal root is continuous with the dorsal root nerve, a portion of which is seen in the upper right-hand corner of this image.
Stain = silver.
