Cardiac muscle, longitudinal section - plastic section (10x objective lens)


This plastic section from the heart shows cardiac muscle fibers (cells) sectioned longitudinally. At this magnification it is possible to see oval, pale-staining nuclei, which are centrally located within the cell bodies; and intercalated discs, which appear as dark lines perpendicular to the long axis of the muscle fibers.

Stain = Iron Hematoxylin
