This section of cardiac muscle in cross section shows the irregular shape and centrally located nuclei that are typical of cardiac muscle. Note also the spaces between the fibers, often seen in cardiac muscle preparations. Spaces this large are a shrinkage artifact. The nuclei outside of the fibers belong to endothelial cells and fibroblasts.
