Skeletal muscle, longitudinal section (20x objective lens)

In this section of skeletal muscle, most of the cross striations have been lost, leaving only longitudinal striations. Numerous elongated nuclei, typical of skeletal muscle, can be seen at the edge of the muscle fibers, where they are located just under the plasma membrane. The elongated and darkly staining nuclei located external to the muscle fibers belong to fibroblasts and capillary endothelial cells.

Stain = H&E.
