Smooth muscle, longitudinal and cross sections (20x objective lens)

This section shows smooth muscle cells cut in both longitudinal section (upper half of image) and cross section (lower half of image). The cells are elongated (fusiform shape) with a single, centrally located elongated nucleus.

At least two capillaries can be seen amongst the cross sectioned muscle fibers near the boundary with the longitudinally sectioned fibers.
