This low magnification
image shows a tangential section through the beginning portion of the vas
deferens (ductus deferens) in the scrotum. The lumen is exposed in two places
and is filled with sperm cells. The epithelium and its underlying connective
tissue is surounded by a thick layer of smooth muscle. The muscle layer is
surrounded by adventitia. Note that the vas deferens is physically separate
from the adjacent testis, containing seminiferous tubules.
