This high magnification
image of a section from thin skin shows a hair follicle surrounded by the
dense irregular connective tissue of the dermis. From the surface of the follicle
to the interior identify the following layers: external root sheath, internal
root sheath, hair cortex and medulla. Note that the cortex and medulla of
the hair are pigmented.
