Serous secretory cells (40x objective lens)

This section shows serous secretory units in the parotid gland. Note the circular, basally located nuclei and the basophilic cytoplasm that is typical of serous secretory cells. In the lower half of the image on the left side is an intralobular duct, with a wall of simple columnar epithelium, surrounded by pink-stined connective tissue. At the same level, to the right, is an intercalated duct with a wall of simple cuboidal epithelium.
