Mixed serous and mucous secretory units (40x objective lens)

This section of the submandibular (submaxillary) gland shows that it contains a mixture of serous secretory units with basophilic cytoplasm and mucous secretory units (unstained cytoplasm) with serous demilunes (basophilic cytoplasm). Also shown are a septum of pink-stained connective tissue, coursing at an angle through the right half of the image, and two cross-sectional profiles of striated (intralobular) ducts with walls of simple columnar epithelium.
