Ovary - secondary follicle (40x objective lens)


This image of a section from the ovary shows secondary follicle in the connective tissue stroma. The follicle consists of a primary oocyte (surrounded by zona pellucida and corona radiata), a many layers of follicular cells and the cavity containing follicular fluid known as the antrum. Note that the follicle is surrounded by the theca interna and the theca externa.
