Ovary (4x objective lens)

This low magnification image of a section from the ovary shows numerous ovarian follicles in the different stages of development surrounded by a stroma of connective tissue. The surface of the ovary is covered by a single layer of cuboidal cells, referred to as the germinal epithelium, although it has nothing to do with the actual germ cells. Between the germinal epithelium and the outer group of small (primordial) follicles is a thick layer of connective tissue called the tunica albuginea.
Stain = H&E.
