Simple columnar epithelium (40x objective lens)

This image from the stomach shows cross sections through several fundic glands, composed of simple columnar epithelium. Note that the nuclei are flattened against the basal surface of the cells and that the cytoplasm is pale-staining, indicating that these cells are mucous-secreting. The dark line at the apical surface of some of the cells is the terminal web.

Stain = H&E.
