Simple cuboidal epithelium (100x objective lens)

This image from the kidney shows cross sections of two distal convoluted tubules (D) and several proximal convoluted tubules, the walls of which are composed of a single layer of cuboidal cells. The circular nuclei located centrally in the cells are characteristic of cuboidal epithelial cells. Although the boundaries between the cells are indistinct, they are located about half way between the adjacent nuclei, making the cells about as wide as they are tall. Some nuclei appear to be missing (*) because they are either are out of the plane of focus or in an adjacent section. Several flattened nuclei (red arrows) of simple squamous cells belong to the endothelium of capillaries.
Stain = AZAN.
