Simple cuboidal epithelium (40x objective lens)


This section shows the simple cuboidal epithelium that forms the walls of the collecting tubules of the kidney, shown here in longitudinal section. Note the circular nuclei within a single layer of cells that are about as wide as they are tall and have slightly rounded apical surfaces that bulge into the lumen (the wide spaces) of the tubules. Also look for the more flattened nuclei, which are the nuclei of the endothelial cells that line the capillaries associated with these tubules.
