Simple squamous epithelium (20x objective lens)

This section of kidney shows the simple squamous epithelium that forms the outer layer (parietal layer) of Bowman's capsule in the kidney (red arrows). Note the flattened nuclei, which are characteristic of squamous cells. The thin cell bodies are not readily visible. The cells rest on a basement membrane, which is stained dark blue with aniline blue. Other flattened nuclei (yellow arrows) belong to simple squamous capillary endothelial cells.
Stain = IHAB.
