Pituitary
gland, pars distalis - plastic section (40x objective lens)
This image of the plastic
section from the pituitary gland shows the pars distalis, composed of three
types of cells: basophils, acidophils
and chromophobes. The cytoplasm of acidophils
stain pink to red with eosin, whereas the cytoplasm of basophils stains purple
with hemotoxylin. The cytoplasm of chromophobes remains unstained in H&E
preparations. Note numerous irregularly-shaped blood vessels filled with eosinophilic
erythrocytes.
