This high magnification
image of the plastic section from the pituitary gland shows the pars distalis
composed of three types of cells: basophils, acidophils and chromophobes.
The cytoplasm of acidophils (arrow) stains pink to red with eosin. The cytoplsam
of basophils (to the right of the arrow) stain purple with hematoxylinh. The
cytoplasm of chromophobes (to the left of the marked acidophil) remains unstained
in H&E preparations.
