image of a plastic section shows a parathyroid gland (below) and its relationship
to the thyroid gland (above). Each gland is covered by a connective tissue
capsules, but the capsules fuse where the glands are in contact. The highly
cellular appearance of the parathyroid contrasts sharply with the follicular
structure of the thyroid.
