Pineal gland (10x objective lens)

This low magnification image of the structure of the parenchyma of the pineal gland. The gland is composed primarily of secretory cells, called pinealocytes , organized into clumps or cords separated by connective tissue septa that derive from the connective tissue capsule (not seen). Also present are several calcified concretions, called brain sand, which are strongly basophilic owing to the concentration of cations in the concretions.
Stain = H&E.
