Liver - bile canaliculi (10x objective lens)


This image is from mammalian liver that has been stained to visualize bile canaliculi (BC), which carry bile from the hepatocytes, which synthesize it, to the bile ducts, located in portal areas. These small channels, which are formed from infoldings of the plasma membrane of adjacent cells, are located where two hepatocytes are in contact. They are spatially separate from the hepatic sinusoids. In the center of the image is a central vein (CV).
