This image is from
mammalian liver that has been stained to visualize bile
canaliculi (BC), which carry bile from the hepatocytes, which synthesize
it, to the bile ducts, located in portal areas. These small channels, which
are formed from infoldings of the plasma membrane of adjacent cells, are located
where two hepatocytes are in contact. They are spatially separate from the
hepatic sinusoids. In the center of the image is a central
vein (CV).
