Anorectal junction - anal orifice and hair follicles (10x objective lens)


This image shows the wall of the anal orifice, the boundary between the anus and the exterior of the body. This portion of the anal canal is covered by hairy skin, consisting of epidermis (Ep) and its underlying dermis (De). The epidermis is a typical keratinizing stratified squamous epithelium (KSSE) with a prominent stratum corneum (SC). The dermis contains hair follicles (HF) with associated sebaceous glands (Se).
