Duodenum - Crypts of Lieberkuhn (Intestinal Glands) (40x objective lens)

This high magnification view of the duodenum shows the crypts of Lieberkuhn of the intestinal mucosa. The crypts are lined by a simple columnar epithelium composed of absorptive cells, goblet cells, and, in the bases of the glands, Paneth cells, which often contain pink-stained (eosinophilic) granules. The glands are surrounded by the highly cellular loose connective tissue of the lamina propria. At the lower edge of the image is a portion of the muscularis mucosae, which separates the mucosa from the underlying submucosa.
Stain = H&E.
