Fundic Pits (40x objective lens)

This high magnification view of the fundic region of the stomach shows the fundic pits, lined by mucous surface cells; and the beginnings of the fundic glands, lined by mucous neck cells. Note the basal location and oval shape of the nuclei of the mucous surface cells and the light-staining to unstained apical cytoplasm, which is filled with mucus.
Stain = H&E.
