Parotid Gland (40x objective lens)

At higher magnification the serous secretory units characteristic of this salivary gland can be clearly seen. The secretory cells, which form acini composed of a simple columnar epithelium, have basophilic cytoplasm and rounded nuclei, located in the lower half of the cell. Two intercalated ducts, lined by simple cuboidal epithelium and with an investment of pink-staining collagenous connective tissue, can also be seen. Note the flattened nuclei of capillary endothelial cells that accompany the connective tissue throughout the gland.
Stain = H&E.
