Foliate papillae - Taste buds (40x objective lens)

This high magnification view of the tongue of the rabbit shows taste buds along the sides of two foliate papillae. Note the relationship of the taste buds with the secondary connective tissue papillae, through which nerves and blood vessels reach the taste buds.
