Rabbit Tongue - Foliate papillae (10x objective lens)


This medium magnification view of the tongue of the rabbit shows foliate papillae with taste buds. Note the primary and secondary connective tissue papillae, which are extensions of the lamina propria, and the covering nonkeratinizing stratified squamous epithelium. Taste buds are arrayed along the sides of the papillae.
