This micrograph shows
a plastic section from the loose connective tissue (lamina propria) of the
ileum. Just below the center of the image is a plasma cell with a classic
"clock-face nucleus" formed by the
nucleolus and aggregates of heterochromatin just inside of the nuclear envelope.
The circular clear area adjacent to the nucleus marks the location of the
Golgi apparatus, which is very prominent in these cells that are differentiated
to secrete antibodies.
