Plasma cells - plastic section (100x objective lens)

This micrograph shows a plastic section from the loose connective tissue (lamina propria) of the ileum. Just below the center of the image is a plasma cell with a classic "clock-face nucleus" formed by the nucleolus and aggregates of heterochromatin just inside of the nuclear envelope. The circular clear area adjacent to the nucleus marks the location of the Golgi apparatus, which is very prominent in these cells that are differentiated to secrete antibodies.
