Areolar connective tissue - collagen fibers (100x objective lens)

Whole mount of the mesentery, showing collagen fibers stained with eosin. Note that collagen fibers are organized into bundles of widely different thicknesses. The unstained background is filled with ground substance that is rich in mucopolysaccharides (glycosaminoglycans) which are unstained.

Stain = H&E and thionin.
