White adipose connective tissue (20x objective lens)

At this magnification, the most p[prominent feature of white adipose cells is the large empty space in the center of the cells marking the location of the central lipid droplet. The lipids are dissolved during dehydration, leaving a large empty space. Note the flattened cell nuclei and the thin rim of cytoplasm that covers the central vesicle. The thin rim of cytoplasm appears as a thin outline. The cell nuclei can be seen as small, dark bulges in the cytoplasmic rim.
