Chromosomes - plastic section (100x objective lens)

This high magnification image shows a plastic section of seminiferous tubules of the testis stained with iron hematoxylin. Chromosomes are visible in several cells, including one that has been sectioned in such a way that the mitotic spindle (arrow) can be seen, with chromosomes aligned in a metaphase plate. Iron hematoxylin also stains the nucleoli and heterochromatin (condensed chromatin usually found in a layer inside of the nuclear envelope) of non-dividing cells black.
Stain: Iron hematoxylin
