Pituitary gland - plastic section (40x objective lens)


This slide shows a plastic section of pituitary gland stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Basophilic cells (yellow arrow), called basophils, stain purple with hematoxylin, whereas acidophilic cells (red arrow), called acidophils, stain pink with eosin. Erythrocytes (blue arrow), present in blood vessels, also stain pink with eosin. The cell nuclei of the pituitary cells stain purple with hematoxylin. The erythrocytes lack nuclei.
