Dorsal root ganglion of the spinal cord (100x objective lens)

This high magnification image shows a section from the dorsal root ganglion stained with azocarmine and aniline blue, showing neuronal cell bodies and nerve fibers. Azocarmine stains DNA and RNA red, and collagen fibers blue. Note the single, prominent, red-stained nucleolus, in the center of the mostly unstained cell nuclei, and the red staining of the neuronal cytoplasm, due to the presence of RNA (ribosomes and mRNA). The collagen fibers of the connective tissue around the cell nuclei and nerve fibers are stained blue.

Stain: Azocarmine and aniline blue (AZAN)
