Fetal skull (40x objective lens)

This image from the developing skull of a rodent was stained with Mallory's triple stain. The collagen fibers of the connective tissue are stained blue with aniline blue; the erythrocytes are stained yellow-orange by orange G; and the cell nuclei and nucleoli are stained magenta with acid fuchsin. The large oval-shaped structure is a hair, which stains with both orange G and acid fuchsin, giving it a red-orange color.

Stain: Mallory's triple stain
