Chromosomes (40x objective lens)


This slide shows the white fish blastula stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The blastula is an early stage in embryonic development that consists of a sphere of dividing cells. Dark purple-stained chromosomes (arrow) are aligned at the metaphase plate of a mitotic cell. The location of the mitotic spindle can also bee seen.
