Flagella (100x objective lens)


This high magnification image of a section of the seminiferous tubule of the testis stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The darkly stained elongated structures are the heads of spermatozoa, from which extend long flagella (arrow) into the lumen of the tubule. Note that the sperm heads stain more darkly that the nearby nuclei because the chromatin in the sperm heads is much more condensed.
