Fibrocartilage (10x objective lens)

This section of fibrocartilage from the pubic symphysis of a rabbit fetus has been stained with iron hematoxylin and eosin, which stains the both the collagen fibers and ground substance of the matrix darker than in H&E. The dark-stained bundles of collagen fibers can be seen embedded in the matrix. The lacunae are occupied by chondrocytes.
