Woven bone (40x objective lens) - tendon insert

This image shows a site where tendons are attaching to a bone. Note that the lamellar bone matrix, characterized by the presence of osteons, is mixed up with woven bone matrix (to the lower left). The lacunae of the woven bone are in no particular pattern, whereas those in the lamellar bone are in files. The matrix of woven bone has an irregular pattern, whereas that of lamellar bone has a lamellar substructure.
