Woven bone (20x objective lens) - tendon insert

This image, from a section of decalcified bone, shows a tendon inserting into the bone. The bone angles from the lower right to the upper left. To the left are red-stained skeletal muscle cells. Try to identify lamellar bone matrix and woven bone matrix. Also find the periosteum. Note the large bundles of collagen fibers in the bone matrix. They are continuous with the collagen fibers of the tendon and help to anchor the tendon firmly into the bone

Stain = H&E.
