Oklahoma Celebrates Its 100th Birthday
Celebrate Oklahoma this week with any of the many events leading up to Statehood Day on Friday, Nov. 16.
Oklahoma officially became a state on November 16, 1907. To celebrate the past 100 years and to set the tone for the next 100 years, many activities are scheduled for around the state, include the Oklahoma Centennial Spectacular at the Ford Center on Friday night, with stars from the state of Oklahoma, including Reba McEntire, Toby Keith, Garth Brooks, Vince Gill, Carrie Underwood, The Flaming Lips, Jimmie Webb and many others. For more information, visit this page.
For three years following statehood, the city of Guthrie was the first capital of the state. This lasted only three years. Guthrie lost the battle to retain the capital only three short years after statehood. In the middle of the night on June 11, 1910, the state seal was moved to Oklahoma City. Visit the Guthrie Events page for a listing of celebrations held there.
Tulsa also is host to many major events commemorating Statehood Day. To see a complete list of events, visit their Web page.
