Greek Actor Stages Plato's the Apology of Socrates
A theatrical performance of Plato’s The Apology of Socrates starring award-winning actor Yannis Simonides will be staged at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 27, in Meacham Auditorium, Oklahoma Memorial Union, 900 Asp Ave.
“Simonides is amazing in creating, for a modern audience, the drama of a philosopher who was condemned to death for his beliefs and who forces us all to think about the meaning of life,” said Andrew Horton, director of the Film and Video Studies program, a unit of the University of Oklahoma’s College of Arts and Sciences.
Hailing from Greece, Simonides is a Yale Drama School-trained actor/writer and Emmy-winning documentary producer. He currently is writing a script based on the life and times of the Alexandrine poet C.P. Cavafy.
